I think this movie captures the most important points when it comes to consumerism and what the government is doing with big businesses. I watched this last semester in NMD203, and at the time, I had never thought about how some stuff can have such a low cost. Externalizing the costs does keep the prices low, but I don’t think it’s fair that it is ruining the resources and environment, meaning everyone has to pay for something that one person is buying. I would rather pay more for an item and have it be completely safe for the environment, and created using more eco-friendly means than pay a lot less for something that comes out of a factory. That being said, it’s not a practical option when there are so many things that we need in everyday life, especially with electronics, but it would be nice to see a system like that someday.
