Movie Response – Nike Ground   Leave a comment

I wasn’t sure what the video had to do with hacktivism during the first minute or so, but then I got really interested in it. Nike changed the name of Karlsplatz to Nikesplatz, and I don’t think it’s surprising that people didn’t like it. This is a good representation of what large corporations are doing nowadays, trying to get as much power as possible. Renaming a town is a pretty powerful move (I can’t imagine it was anything other than either a publicity stunt or to show what the corporations are doing).

I’m glad most of the people wanted to keep the old name, citing reasons dealing with the roots of the town, historical significance, etc. Even the younger generation and kids didn’t like it, with one kid stating something along the lines that the town was for everyone, and should stay that way.
